Tuomo Karjalainen was born in Helsinki, Finland and moved to London in 1999. After playing in several bands over the years he decided to leave this world behind and focus instead on writing music entirely for the guitar. Tuomo felt that this allowed for a much wider artistic expression on the instrument than was possible within a band.
Tuomo’s music has been described as visual or cinematic, but he prefers to refer to it as ‘cinematic dream guitar’.
As well as gigging regularly in London, Tuomo also produces visual art and writes poetry. Recent performances include a modern rendition of the Kalevala (a seminal work in Finnish literature) at the Finnish Church in London, combining Tuomo’s guitar playing with this ancient Finnish poetry and also regular guitar performances with the Newham Poetry Group.
We believe Tuomo will bring a unique perspective on the 2017 theme and look forward to presenting his work.
We invite you to get tickets in advance at our special Early bird rates. Tuomo will be performing in Session 4.
